This school trip will appeal to students studying languages as we visit three countries during the tour - France, Germany and Switzerland. Strasbourg in France is the home of the European Parliament and is a beautiful old city with a fine gothic Cathedral surrounded by half-timbered medieval houses. A city of culture and of trade, Strasbourg was returned to France after being annexed by Germany in WW1 and WW2.

Europa Theme Park

The Europa Theme Park in Rust is the second most popular theme park in Europe after Disneyland Paris®. There is plenty to excite students of all ages! The park has nine roller coasters the oldest being the Alpenxpress Mine Train where you travel at speed through a diamond cave.

Strasbourg

Strasbourg is the seat of several European institutions such as the Council of Europe (with its European Court of Human Rights) as well as the European Parliament. The historic city centre, the Grande Île, was classified a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Strasbourg is a mix of Franco-German culture and is a beautiful city.

Freiburg

One of the famous old German university towns, Freiburg was incorporated in the early 12th century and developed into a major commercial, intellectual, and ecclesiastical centre. The city is known for its ancient university and its medieval cathedral, as well as being the gateway to the beautiful Black Forest region.

Basel

Basel is Switzerland's third largest city and is located where the Swiss, French and German borders meet on the river Rhine. It has the oldest university of the Swiss Confederation . Basel is German-speaking and is among the most important cultural centres of Switzerland. The city has a large number of museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, the world's oldest art collection.

Day 1
Travel via Calais to Lille in France.
Day 2
Travel to Strasbourg. Afternoon exploring the city on foot followed by an optional evening river cruise*.
Day 3
Tour of Strasbourg including the Council of Europe Building, the European Court of Human Rights, the Cathedral, the medieval covered bridges ‘Ponts Couverts’ and the Vauban Barrage. Visit to the Black Forest in Germany and Freiburg. Optional cable car ride up the Schauinsland Mountain*. We could then travel into Switzerland and visit Basel before returning to Strasbourg.
Day 4
Visit to the Europa Park Theme Park* in Rust, Germany. Alternatively we could visit Basle in Switzerland in the morning then drive into Germany and spend the afternoon at the Laguna Waterpark* in Weil Am Rhein.
Day 5
Return travel via Calais.

Accommodation in 2 star hotels with ensuite facilities or school centre.
Students share twin/triple rooms in hotels on a Bed & Breakfast basis or and multi-bedded rooms at Ciarus centre on a Half Board basis.
