This tour is a perfect introduction to Germany for students learning German. The vast Gothic Cologne Cathedral is inspiring and the rack and pinion railway to Konigswinter provides breathtaking views across the Rhine. The drive along the Rhine valley to Boppard takes you past some of the most beautiful scenery in Germany (one of UNESCO's World Heritage sites) and there are many stunning castles and striking cliffs as you pass through the Rhine Gorge. We can offer an optional river cruise on a paddle steamer along part of the Rhine which passes the famous Loreley statue. The Deutches Eck in Koblenz is a popular visit - a stunning promontory where the River Moselle meets the River Rhine
Phantasialand® near Bruhl is Germany's leading theme park, so get ready for an unforgettable day. Visit the Mystery Castle, where you are fired into the air inside an ancient tower - the only attraction of its kind anywhere in Europe. In the Galaxy Simulator you will experience travel into outer space while the River Quest is a classic wet n'wild ride. Visit Wuze Town an incredible experience for everyone into a civilisation hidden for centuries. Ride the runaway ghost train on the Colorado Adventure up to dizzying heights and down deep gorges. If you are scared of heights you'll want to avoid the Condor ride which rises high into the air as it turns.
Cologne Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church and a World Heritage Site. It is one of the best-known architectural monuments in Germany and is Cologne's most famous landmark. Construction began in 1248 and took until 1880 to complete. Because of its enormous twin spires, it also presents the largest façade of any church in the world.
The Chocolate Museum was set up to be an interactive experience. The tour starts with a visit to a tropical garden with real cacao plants and then takes the visitor through the entire production process from bean to handmade choclates. Highlight for most students is the chocolate fountain.
The romantic Drachenfels mountain, crowned by the ruins of a castle built in the early 12th century rises behind the town of Konigswinter. From the summit, which can be accessed by the rack & pinion railway, there is a magnificent view of the Rhine Valley. A cave in the hill is said to have sheltered the dragon which was slain by the hero Siegfried.
A visit to Koblenz must include a visit to the Deutsche Eck (literally German Corner), a headland where the Mosel joins the Rhine. In 1897, the German Emperor Wilhelm I, was honoured with a giant equestrian statue on the promontory. After the Berlin Wall came down, three concrete parts of the wall were installed next to the monument.
